Sverige

It seemed like moving to Sweden was a distant proposition that would forever loom just over the horizon. Well, as always, time moved forward and here we are.

The plane flight was easy, Amblen slept and we watched Talladega Nights. Nothing like a send-off from Will Ferrell as one exits the country for a year.

We are in our apartment in Årsta (ewrshta) and settling right into life over here. There is a small area two blocks up the hill that has shops, a grocery, and a cinema.

The taxi driver pulled right up to the door so we didn't have to lug our massive baggage that far:

The apartment is very nice. The owner, Åsa (eww-sa), is incredibly nice. She dug some of her stuff out of storage for us so that we wouldn't be completely barren. She also left us some plants which has helped to make us feel at home. Karl-Fredrik, Mari, Marianne, and Karl-Jorgen have also pitched in with extra stuff. The rest will be scrounged up from second-hand stores and the used online marketplace blocket.se. This is in line with the motto of live the experience with full immersion. That is, we have decided to obtain anything but food and hygiene related products second-hand for the year we are here. No buying anything new. In a way we will be able to be a piece of data for the field research. It will also put us in direct contact with the outlets for this market.

The apartment is what they call a two room, one bedroom and a living room. Of course there is a kitchen and bathroom as well (even a balcony). The accommodations are fairly spartan, but there is plenty of closet space. In fact, perhaps even more than we had at home.

All for now, more pictures of the outside soon. . .

wow...it's so hard to believe that you are full time residents of a country across the globe! The place looks great - I heard "minimal" is the new black :)

Ella looked at both photos with Amblen in them and petted the screen. I asked her what to type for him, and she said "hi Amblen, I love you whole big bunches."

Well put. Ditto that times three!
